Root Cause

  • Obsolete BINs: The card issuer updated their BIN ranges, and older cards are no longer valid.

  • Bank mergers or rebranding: Changes at the issuer level can render previously valid BINs invalid.

  • Expired or deactivated cards: Cards tied to old BINs may be phased out as part of security or operational updates.

  • Incorrect card information: The card number entered does not correspond to a valid BIN recognized by the payment network.

Troubleshooting and Solutions

  • Inform the customer that their card's Bank Identification Number (BIN) is no longer valid.

  • Ask the customer to:

    • Contact their card issuer to confirm the validity of their card.

    • Request a replacement card if necessary.

    • Update their payment information with a valid card number.

  • Retry the transaction only after the customer updates their payment method with a new, valid card.
